Wild Mama Weekly Snippet #5
Holding things in my heart, letting go and all the usuals. Plus a big announcement!
Happy Sunday!
What a week it’s been. We have been busy traveling, exploring, catching up with friends and family, learning and living. I’m finding myself excited to write these little snippets now! Is it groundbreaking intellectual stimulation? Doubtful! But it’s fun and it’s a reason to deeply reflect and consider what I’m doing and putting out into the world. I’m here for it. And if you’re here reading it - thank you for being here for it too!
What I’m listening to:
I have been on a homeschool podcast bender this week. I’m really loving the increase in amazing Australian podcasts coming out.
The archives from both Australian Homeschool Stories and Sisters Who Homeschool podcasts have been on heavy rotation this week.
I continue to work my way through Outlander book 5, The Fiery Cross by Diana Galbaldon, and I still cannot decide whether audiobooks belong in reading or listening because personally I think it’s both. Tell me in the comments which way do you vote? Do my audiobooks belong in listening or reading?
What I’m reading:
I’ve just finished reading The Lost Apothecary by Sarah Penner and currently working through Breath by James Nestor both in paperback. Honestly I’m really trying to quickly make a decent dent in the large pile of books I have in the van right now because I used a gift voucher I got for Christmas and have a largish book order on the way I’ll be picking up from my sisters house at Easter. Given we have limited space (and weight allowance), I gotta get reading!
I also subscribed to Blessingsontheblossoms on Patreon this week. Dani is a Steiner teacher, mother to 4 and fellow homeschooling mama. I have been reading through her posts. Getting lots of ideas. Finding other homeschoolers to be a real source of inspiration at the moment and am stoked to be supporting a home ed family through this subscription.
What I’m watching:
I haven’t been watching anything much myself but as a family we have been watching Fire to Fork on YouTube which we’re enjoying. It’s an outdoor cooking channel. I’d love to call in more opportunities for cooking over an open fire. You’d be surprised by how little opportunity we have had for fires as we’ve travelled Australia!
As a part of our morning learning my children have been working through the Magic School Bus Rides Again series on Netflix, which I think is pretty fun!
This week I’m adding a new category!
What I’m loving:
Morning walks with my favourite podcasts or a good audiobook.
Attractions, shops, restaurants etc that truly consider and welcome children.
Working on my bullet journal. I’m not getting to it quite as often as I would like but I’m really enjoying giving it a go!
My big girl has been taking Polaroids and making a little book of our adventures lately and it’s so sweet. I love child-led projects.
Being camped up amongst trees with lots of space (especially since we’ve spent so much time in the city recently).
Hot cross buns. I wish I had the time and space for being a wholesome homestead mama that makes them myself from scratch but alas in this season of my life it’s the supermarket / bakery buns for us and that’s just fine with me.
What I’m thinking about:
I’m feeling a real shake up personally. Maybe it’s the start of the astrological year or perhaps it’s my fast approaching 32nd birthday but I’m reevaluating where my energy is going right now. I’m thinking about things that have been hidden in my heart for quite some time. I’m sitting and thinking and praying. Believing the right opportunities will arise at the right times. I’m starting to feel ready to let go of things that I’ve been holding onto. Things that I love and have been such special parts of my life. But not everything is meant to be forever and as a homeschooling mama, with my babies forever at the forefront, sometimes the other things just have to fall away. Finding peace in the letting go, knowing that other projects, ideas and passions are arising.
Speaking of new ideas and projects - my subscription offerings are changing! I’m actually so excited to have more vision and more to offer in this space.
Coming in April my subscription will include at least 2 written posts, a weekly discussion thread, regular journal prompts and a monthly zoom call. All this for $5 a month (or less if you subscribe for the year)! I have currently been prioritising just 1 paid post a month so this is a huge increase, and it will stay at the same price for at least the next couple of months as I settle into the new flow of these offerings. I think it’s going to be good! If you’re currently subscribed- make sure you take advantage of these goodies.
Not quite a photo a day but here’s some snaps I’d like to share:
And that’s me for the week!
I’ll pop up in your inbox again soon with my March resource round up and Wild Mama reads!
Let me know - what have you been listening to, reading, watching, loving and thinking about this week?
Thank you for sharing the podcast Laura 🤗🫶
