Did art school kill my creativity?
My experience with higher education and some musing on what kills creativity and how we can preserve it.
I’m currently laying in bed watching my eldest daughter cut out little drawings of mermaid creatures she has created. I am always awed by her imagination, how she pulls together artworks from nothing. How she expresses herself in pencil and paper and whatever materials or even recycling may be available to her at any given time. She doesn’t worry if her art is ‘good’. She isn’t concerned about what anyone else thinks of her art, she often doesn’t even intentionally show anyone. She makes because she’s a maker. She makes because she loves it. She makes because she’s compelled to.
I used to be like this too. I was always making something. Anything.
